Nestwatch

Download Nestwatch

Install Nestwatch on two devices: one as the station near your child, one as the listener. Every native app can do both.

Builds are attached to every release on GitHub Releases; the buttons below fetch the files of the latest release. Nestwatch is new: if a release has not been published yet, or a file is missing, build from source.

Browser

Listener, nothing to install: the easiest way to start.

Requirements

  • Chrome or Edge 113, Firefox 128, Safari 17 or newer
  • Talk-back needs an HTTPS address

Open the web app on this site on any phone, tablet or computer and pair it with your station. It connects through the relay, so it works from anywhere, and talk-back works because the site uses HTTPS. Switch on Reachable through a relay server on the station.

At home you can also open the web address a computer station shows on its pairing screen; that copy is served by the station itself and needs no relay.

Linux

Station and listener, desktop app.

Requirements

  • x86_64 or aarch64
  • WebKitGTK 4.1 and GTK 3 (Debian 12, Ubuntu 22.04, Fedora 37 or newer)
  • PipeWire or PulseAudio with pulseaudio-utils for sound

.deb for Debian and Ubuntu, .rpm for Fedora and other RPM-based distributions, .tar.gz for everything else: unpack it and run bin/nestwatch-desktop. The packages also contain nestwatch-station, a station without a window for a spare computer.

macOS

Station and listener, desktop app.

Requirements

  • macOS 12 Monterey or newer
  • Apple silicon or Intel (one universal app)

The app is not yet signed by Apple, so macOS blocks it the first time. Drag Nestwatch to Applications, open it once, then go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway. On macOS 14 and older you can instead Control-click the app and choose Open.

Windows

Station and listener, desktop app.

Requirements

  • Windows 10 21H2 or newer, or Windows 11
  • x86_64
  • Microsoft Edge WebView2 (included in Windows 11 and current Windows 10)

The installer is not yet code-signed, so SmartScreen may warn you. Choose More info → Run anyway if the file came from the release page and its checksum matches.

Android

Station and listener, phone and tablet app.

Requirements

  • Android 6.0 or newer
  • arm64, armv7 or x86_64

Open the downloaded file and allow your browser or file manager to install apps when asked. Releases built without the project's signing key carry a name that says so (…-testkey.apk); uninstall such a build before installing a properly signed one.

An Android station does not serve the browser listener yet; use a computer as the station for that.

iPhone and iPad

Station and listener.

Coming soon

Requirements

  • iOS 15 or newer (planned)

The iOS app is planned on the same core as the other apps and is not available yet.

Build from source

Nestwatch is written in Rust. With a current Rust toolchain (and on Linux the WebKitGTK development packages listed in apps/desktop):

git clone https://github.com/jeroentrappers/nestwatch
cd nestwatch
apps/web/build.sh # browser listener the station serves
cargo run --release -p nestwatch-desktop # desktop app
