Open source

Nestwatch is free software. You can read every line, build it yourself, and share it.

License

Nestwatch is licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 or later. You may use, study, change and share it; if you distribute a changed version or run it as a service for others, you share your changes under the same license.

The AGPL conflicts with Apple App Store rules. Before an iOS release, the copyright holder intends to grant an explicit additional permission for app-store distribution, or to distribute iOS builds another way.

The behaviour of every app comes from one set of specifications: the product requirements, the wire protocol, the security model and the platform rules. Code follows the specs, and changes to behaviour go through the specs first.

Contributing

  • Report bugs and ideas in GitHub Issues. Please never attach recordings or pictures of your home.
  • Read the specs before changing behaviour; requirements carry stable IDs such as FR-PAIR-3 that tests and issues refer to.
  • Pull requests are checked with rustfmt, clippy and the tests, and every app is built on Linux, macOS, Windows and Android.
  • Translations are welcome: the website keeps every string in one file per language.

Why Nestwatch

Many connected baby monitors send the sound of your child's room through a company's servers, and depend on that company to keep working. Nestwatch uses the devices you already have, keeps everything between them, and is built in the open so that it can be checked and keep working.
